What are some good no-shampoo methods for washing your hair?

I've seen a huge variety of ideas from baking soda/cider vinegar to egg whites %26amp; olive oil.

What methods have you heard of or used for washing your hair without using a traditional shampoo with detergents?

I have tried, and really liked, the Wen line of conditioning cleansers but I find them too expensive http://www.thegourmetbody.com/.

I'm looking for a suitable alternative that doesn't cost quite so much. What are some good no-shampoo methods for washing your hair?
Look to nature! You can buy common grocery store items that contain lactic acid, glycolic acid or citric acid. They will cut oils and cleanse naturally. Glycolic acid is found in honey, table sugar and hard alcohol such as vodka. Sugar also works as an abrasive to help scrub away dirt and oil. Citric acid is found in oranges, lemons, ETC. and lactic acid is found in natural yogurt, buttermilk, ETC. You can also use olive oil and capsules of vitamin E to nourish hair. You can mix them in a blender and use them fresh, or make a bigger batch that lasts in the fridge for about a week.

*Shampoo-mix 1/2 cup sugar and plain natural yogurt. Add a spoon full each of fresh lemon juice and apple cider vinegar.

*Conditioner-one blended avocadoand one raw egg(for protine if you arent vegan) a splash of buttermilk, and one capsule of vitamine E (or a few drops of olive oil)blended.

*Facial/body scrub scrub-equal parts honey and sugar, a little citrus juice and 1/2 vita mine E capsule. (makes your skin super soft)

* Natural face astrengent- equal parts alochol/half lemon juice/apple cider vinegar.

-Apple cider vinegar is also great for hair and skin. It has alpha-hydroxy acids that helping to dissolve oils without drying you out. It restores PH balance so its good for fighting dandruf. It is also antiseptic, combating yeasts, viruses and bacteria that can cause infection. Add a little to any of the above recipies(its potent).

I know it sounds weird but it works and at least this way, you know its all natural, chemical free, vegan, and all around good for you. Probably cheaper than expensive salon shampoo too. What are some good no-shampoo methods for washing your hair?
Using baking soda and apple cider vinegar is a good alternative...vinegar is healthy for the hair and gives it nice shine and the apple part makes it not smell as bad as regular vinegar. If you use baking soda and water beforehand and scrub on the scalp then rinse, it will get rid of the dirt/oil and then use the vinegar in place of the conditioner as it helps to close up the cuticle and smooth down the hair.
Regular cheap conditioner works just as well (if not better) than Wen.

Suave and VO5 conditioners work great.
mayo

but only keep it in for a while if you leave it in to long you're hair will smell bad.
